Let's talk about nerdy things!
Yeah 100%. I run on a cheap VPS which then ships data to cloudflare workers and data is served off cloudflare workers too.

$5 VPS on ovh handles it with no overages on bandwidth

Yeah most the core product team lost their job at GitHub and instead they're focusing on AI. The statement doesn't exactly hide the AI part but it doesn't explicitly mention it. I'm ready to start evaluating different providers for CI. It's really annoying me how under invested it is

Call me a tool please Kelsey, it would be an honour!
I'll pop it on my resume

Most "DevOps engineers" don't actually know what DevOps or DevOps practitioning is. Probably not that hot, just inflammatory 😅

Hah that's neat! I've always wanted to do an interactive talk. I know when I get the time and lack of severely crippling anxiety to talk in front of a room of strangers that's the kind of talk I'll do. Thanks for sharing man!

Hah nice interactivity!

Some callouts for SI already. I found it okay, it was only AWS at the time I looked but hopefully it's changed?

Terraform is cool still. Without drama attached you might prefer OpenTofu the fork, but license likely doesn't matter and the features are so close it's a bit of a non starter convo.

Current: frustrated

Hah love that. Just so long as you don't explain a firewall being like a Carburetor 🤣

That's cool, please update us with how you get on! Love to celebrate the wins

Nice! What was the question you handled best and what do you think was the weakest answer?
August 27, 2025 at 6:34 AM
Now I do!

The trick is to lose it before you start. Be so jaded you turn to DevOps

That's a vicious cycle of applying and getting rejected. Not a good motivation. Then start identifying the "primary skill" companies are looking for and see if there's a trend in the roles you like the look of. Then go learn that in depth.
August 17, 2025 at 8:13 AM
Companies like to hire T-shaped. That's someone who specialises in something they're looking for and then has a broad set of skills, but maybe not a great depth on them.

Start looking at jobs to see what you would like to do - don't make yourself miserable by applying.
August 17, 2025 at 8:13 AM
You don't need those things. Same for certs. That said they're a foot in the door. So given a degree might be out of reach then a cert might be viable. It's who and what you know that gets you a career.

Being on support is a good way to get broad knowledge

Good choice!!

Argo or flux? 👀

vim & curl - pain mode! /s

kustomize has come a long way! Feels a little complex and nuanced
cue is the cool one these days. Can work with a lot of other stuff but you have to learn the language

> do not accept helm

try dealing with helm in terraform 🤮 Been there, hated that decision 😢

I think that's the beauty of it. It's an ecosystem. So scheduling is just one of those. It's event driven, drives new events and you can totally swap it out for something else if you wanted.

Karpenter is a good example of extending the scheduler to drive faster scaling.

Motion canvas has a really active discord - there might be some folks there which can recommend something.

If you land on something you really like gimme a ping I'd love to hear about it 🤝
August 2, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Ah that's awesome. Yep makes sense, would be great to make them more generic for usage in tutorial posts - considered it myself but never delved too deeply into it to find a solution.

I was considering using it for a talk which would be interactive with external controls (websocket)

These look great! Have you looked at motion canvas? It can produce some beautiful animations in typescript.

Hah! True.
July 31, 2025 at 5:14 PM
That would make sense to be fair. I missed the part with it being backwards compatible. In that case. Heck yeah!
July 30, 2025 at 9:11 PM
On a serious note. I can't help but feel it's a very go-centric choice. It might be a weird take but we know k8s is already pretty go-centric, so its own format will likely produce only a single official implementation.

Hopefully the API's remain YAML first!
