Tall, Scottish, friendly, occasionally handsome (not actually an Alpaca)
Isn't this what Cory Doctorow laid out as the "Enshitification" method whereby it's more profitable if Google is broken because making 3 searches earns them 3 times the ad revenue than if you find the answer 1st time?

Maybe I'm daft but surely "population has more money" = "population has more money to spend" = "economy goes up because there is more money fluidly moving in the economy"?

What am I missing here? I know this is a gross simplification but what is the key gap in my understanding here?

The audience shouldn’t be leaps ahead of the characters. That just makes them catching up feel dull, unless it’s for dramatic effect.

Here it feels like the assumed audience is just… not very bright and needs everything explained in tedious detail, between the overlong unfunny montages.

A big part of the problem is that I also feel like as a sci-fi fan, I’m already about 3 episodes ahead of everything Carol is very very slowly working out, based on me having thought about it for a few minutes.

Which is always a problem in spec fiction.

Instead I just find myself getting annoyed by the deliberately overlong, over-covered and over-intricate montage & “doing things” sequences.

You could trim each one down by more than half and it would be BETTER.

Like, if it was actually laugh out loud funny some of this would work better but it just… isn’t landing like that.

It’s fine. Well made, and it has a plot but it feels like should be a quirky novel.

Maybe don’t take a big drink anytime soon.

I do love chia seeds in overnight oats. With pistachio oat milk, a bit of honey and a sprinkle of chocolate drops.
