the con men con but life goes on
somewhat jaded late Xer
he/him

in no particular order:
cats, cad, cnc, code, circuits, cars (volvo)
dabbler in guitars and complex dynamics

trans rights are human rights
free palestine
‘AI’ is a pox on humanity
“tried to destroy our community”

do they mean “made fun of our silly ideas”? maybe “criticized our silly ideas”?
the melodrama is amazing

Lightcone Infrastructure?!
overestimating our significance in the universe as much as any religion

this was an amusing read, singular lack of self-awareness

I think this is entirely reasonable, esp. when you realize that it’s really not different from ordinary long division because the numbers we write are polynomials in disguise

even if they’re legitimate quotes, it’s at least suggesting ‘not the word I would have used’
November 9, 2025 at 4:54 PM
this ambiguity is something I’ve been thinking about lately. I’ve seen examples where context suggests the use of quotes is not intended to stigmatize, but isolated single words like this read strongly as scare quotes, especially on social media

definitely puts me at sixes and sevens

I love the tattered remnants, a sort of midden in what it reveals

means testing is actually wasteful, and just exists so a certain type of person can feel like the undeserving are being denied

indeed, like UBI, these kinds of benefits have repeatedly been shown to have positive economic return, even when you don’t account for hard to quantify things like quality of life

I shudder to think of what will happen to grocery prices with the revenue stores get from SNAP being withheld

this article made my day

it’s going to take me a long time to get “finger pinching theorists” out of my head

The typical billionaire would rather pay $100 million to oppress people than $10 to help them.

our illustrious leadership up here in Canada still seem to be operating under the mistaken assumption that such a thing is remotely possible

I figured the latest tantrum over the Reagan ad would cement what should have been obvious a long time ago

apparently they’re just gonna pretend harder

I’m halfway through the preface and am out of ink on my big red CITATION NEEDED stamp

yes, all the processes and mechanisms of oppression and control are proven in the colonies and dominions, then brought home to the core

I fear for our future if this does not become more widely understood

knapsack problems should be optional, even if they’re kinda fun sometimes

I thought to check on AOL after writing this and they shut down dial up access in September

yes, September of this year
October 26, 2025 at 1:29 PM
I feel like online folks used to be able to keep this shit relatively marginalized, and then came the eternal September, and all was lost

certainly oversimplified, and I’m not sure what could have been done differently, but it seems like shame used to work and it just doesn’t now

it’s important these days to frame everything as a battle, so that the little boys can understand the pivotal nature of the latest batch of slop and become suitably excited advocates

to paraphrase Mark Twain, these people say they want to create, but what they really want is to have created

to be recognized, to enjoy the fruits, without doing any of the work
October 26, 2025 at 2:12 AM
this is a massive overreach,
intended to permit professionals to spread misinformation and hate

nothing whatsoever to do with legitimate free expression, they want legitimization of antivax, climate change denial, transphobia, etc.

scary stuff
