Did you happen to pick up who put that out? Dems, a candidate, some group, etc.?

Related: I miss having two competing papers! The coverage got SO much crappier once they were all local monopolies.

I agree, but even the numbers suggested by proponents of that theory don't predict declines as big as we've witnessed. There's more going on and IMO, the desire to attribute the decline to actions by cops, prisons, government, etc., obscures what we're seeing.

Not off hand, but it's bunk. Abortion was more common pre-Roe than in the decades after it: Lower rate when Dobbs was decided than, e.g., in 1967. Those numbers are in this piece, though the article is not on the topic of Freakonomics. gritsforbreakfast.blogspot.com/2022/07/cjre...
#CJreform Movement Poorly Positioned to Confront Re-Criminalized Abortion
During my three decades working on criminal-justice reform, when abortion came up, your correspondent always took the attitude, "That's some...

Delaying sex has big implications, too. It's part and parcel of MUCH more responsible behavior by young ppl during the period of their lives when, historically, their cohort accounted for the largest portion of crime. And it sure ain't bc of anything the cops or courts did. Much less Trump.

None of that IMO is bc of some great success by the justice system or bc young ppl fear punishment. It's bc those are all self harming, antisocial behaviors and today's youth aren't nearly as interested in them as my (Gen X) cohort. They're simply better ppl than we were at that age.

I once tried to count the theories explaining The Great Crime Decline: IIRC, I found +/-26.

My personal view: It's not the justice system. Young ppl today are just better human beings than their parents/grandparents. They drink less, couple up later, are less bigoted, and commit FAR fewer crimes.

CIUs are only as good as the ppl running them. If leaders want to do the job and are aggressive, there's usually a lot of low hanging fruit to be had, esp at first. If their goal is protecting the institution/convictions, they sit on their hands then shrug and say "I guess they're all guilty."

billion, but yeah, that's not credible.

No idea how that's estimated, but I do know recent trips I've taken turned out MUCH more expensive than we anticipated. Often in surprising, granular ways that aren't the big ticket parts. Travel's gotten really costly, by plane or otherwise.

It's mostly explained by Dana having basically monopoly power and being a Trump sycophant. The only ways to get in the UFC are the Ultimate Fighter Show, the Contender Series, or taking a fight short notice. It all runs through him. Fighters really have no choice but to suck up to him.

Flying is probably what gets you to $1K. Big travel day, which is expensive af these days.
