Nobody who sees patients should be boasting about capturing more revenue without additional hospital resources, as if it’s a virtue. As if maximum financial extraction won’t worsen outcomes. As if it won’t cost some patients their lives.

In an email to medical staff and caregivers on Wednesday, PeaceHealth officials said they are “confident the new partnership is the right fit for the future in their emergency departments.”
PeaceHealth to replace local emergency room doctors with out-of-state ApolloMD
For decades, PeaceHealth Oregon has contracted with the local group, Eugene Emergency Physicians, to staff its emergency departments. Come June, that contract will not be renewed. Instead, the hospital system has chosen Atlanta-based ApolloMD as its emergency medicine partner in Springfield, Florence and Cottage Grove.

i think this attitude — that all opposition is illegitimate and nothing we do can be questioned— is probably pervasive in the white house and helps explain why they keep making terrible political choices
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

fun fact about that Rose Bowl in 1917:

UO didn't have money to send the team to Pasadena, so they sold the campus bookstore.

The company that ran it was so awful that in 1920 students, faculty, and staff raised money to buy it.
