I’m just here to like your posts when you have something sensible or nice to say
This is the kind of car I want to see arriving from China.
There’s a need for it as affordable city transportation and few traditional automakers are even thinking about this segment

It’s nowhere near, Great Wall who have since renamed the Funky Cat in western markets, realising such a name isn’t selling cars, also produce the ‘King Kong Cannon (poer)’,
(is there a ‘w’ missing from poer or god forbid another ‘o’) for the Chinese market?

What a surprise 😮

Your numbers are all wrong.

If you buy an EV you should make it a mission to avoid 80p+ kWh chargers.
They are more expensive than petrol.
Fortunately it should be rare to need to use them and then only for last few miles of a journey. Cheaper charging is available.

Just go on auto trader set a maximum price at something below £25k, power electric and an earliest year of 2025 see what cars the best deal are on.
Tesla’s can be very expensive to insure, maybe keep below insurance group 25.

BYD stand out amongst Chinese brands with good tech that’s not clunky or simply a copy of western brands although this has some strong Guilia Quadrifoglio vibes.

I guess you can’t buy the Guilia with a flat 4? Ho ho.

You could look at chargemystreet.co.uk
You’d have to check but 41p / kWh or 36p / kWh for higher use. Lidl aren’t too expensive either.

I get quite annoyed when I see Shell, BP & some of the better known companies with prices that can be over 80p/kWh

It’s not chaotic.

PHEVs are to be taxed on electricity use at half the rate of BEVs irrespective of whether they are plugged in or not.
December 7, 2025 at 12:46 PM
It’s the death of moderately priced plugin hybrids that have such short EV range it’s hardly worth the bother to plug them.

Many recent plugins have greater range.

Probably bad news for a few taxi drivers with older PHEVs with tiny and aging batteries 🚕 🪫 that’s all.

At least think it was Sunday ?

Anyway I’ve more than made my point: The reason electric busses don’t work for you but work in Lapland & for that matter Ontario is more to do with the way your electricity is generated & priced than anything to do with the busses.

Ontario renewables/nuclear = cheap electric = love EVs inc busses

Alberta has a deregulated energy market based on market conditions.
As your electricity is generated from gas, the price fluctuates influenced by global gas prices. Gas can be sold globally.
So despite you having gas coming out of your ears you may pay more for electricity than other provinces.

Something like this?

Don’t allow Americans to succeed without dependence on Trump.

Don’t allow other countries to succeed without dependence on Americans.

Encourage despots and cruel leaders across the world to make Trump look comparatively better.

Make successful democracies your enemy.

So whilst Electric busses are a nice to have the money is better first invested in renewables & the electricity grid. If you had the extra 11Gw of renewable electricity on your doorstep with more planned you’d be more enthusiastic about electric busses and cars. It will happen just slower than hoped
December 6, 2025 at 7:24 PM
Gas & oil prices fluctuate on global markets. Whilst electricity prices are linked to fossil fuel prices if you have enough renewable energy locally then electricity prices can be decoupled because like you say you can’t sell the electric to Japan. You can still export electricity but not so far.
December 6, 2025 at 7:24 PM
Electric transportation reaps most benefits when electricity is generated from renewables. If your electricity is generated from natural gas you might as well run the busses on propane
Large renewable energy initiatives compete with gas supply contracts with electricity companies forcing down prices

I’m sure Katie Hopkins is getting worried
December 6, 2025 at 5:03 PM
As I said you can’t sell something you needlessly burned 🔥and shouldn’t pass the opportunity to develop a new technology because you’ve become dependent on the old.

Look at the rapid development in renewables in Texas. What’s so different about Alberta?

There are plenty of Nativity scenes up and down the UK which are brought out for Christmas by local councils.
I enjoy seeing them, I don’t think I would have the same feelings for a Christmas Flag?
December 6, 2025 at 4:33 PM
It’s worth noting Reform UKs official line on flags is to allow only the Union flag and home nation flags on its buildings which has some sense in that it avoids endless debate about which flag to hang on which day. It flies in the face of that that Reform councillors are inventing their own flags?

They now sell one of those $12k BYDs in the UK (no tariffs) and ask nearer $24k for it. It’s smaller than a Toyota Yaris. The BYD battery tech is good but only 30kWh. It’ll be ok as a nearly new second hand buy for nearer $12k for someone who needs a city run around.

To be fair the new Bolt compares favourably against similar Chinese models. Decent efficiency & range. Enough space & price isn’t too bad either although Nissan Leaf looks better still.
