Started out with rewatch of Zhang Yimou's frosty spy movie, ended (literally - credits rolled 5 minutes before midnight!) with @vycevictus.bsky.social
favourite: as he puts it, a 3-star movie with 5 stars worth of entertainment.

Finally watched Phantom (2023, Lee Hae-young) after blind-buying the bluray from Korea.

Loses a bit of magic once it exits the hotel setting, but still top-notch pulpy fun.

Apropos of nothing, “The Man Standing Next”, “12:12 The Day”, and “1987: When The Day Comes” are great South Korean movies based on true events (I’ve listed them in historical order).

Could also make the case for “Hunt” (between 12:12 and 1987) and Kingmaker (after 1987)

A day late, but had a good run recently.

In order from most recent: Land Of Bad (2024, director William Eubank) - I rated it 3.5 stars Veteran (2015, director Ryoo Seung-Wan) - I rated it 4 stars. Joint Security Area (2000, director Park Chan-wook) - I rated it 4 stars. This was a rewatch. Motorway (2012, director Soi Cheang) - I rated it 4 stars.
