Glasgow Film Festival just started, and has been good to me thus far.

And to be slightly mean, because you often make me jealous when tweeting what you've been watching 😃 I'm going to reciprocate with a sneak preview of some of my next watches!

"Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" - classic Shane Black

"Lone Star" was a last-minute decision to go watch the 4K restoration of a movie I'd never heard of when it was showing at Glasgow Film Theatre. Bought the bluray the next day.

"Phantom" - I love me some Japan-occupation set Korean period capers.

My 2024 first-time watches top 10.

My 2024 releases top 10.

Saw very few 2024 releases. "Love Lies..." might rise on rewatch - some guy brought 4 kids into screening (WTF?) who chatted noisily throughout, taking me out of movie.

"Jericho Ridge" only released in UK in 2024, so counting it

favourite: as he puts it, a 3-star movie with 5 stars worth of entertainment.

Finally watched Phantom (2023, Lee Hae-young) after blind-buying the bluray from Korea.

Loses a bit of magic once it exits the hotel setting, but still top-notch pulpy fun.

Anyway, wanted to say I still think about this amazing shot in Motorway
A still from the 2012 movie Motorway (director Soi Cheang). The shot is from a high perspective looking down a hillside at night. Hence, most of the frame is dark shadow with little distinguishable, though the shape of foliage can be seen towards the top. The edge of the hill is clearly visible, running in a more or less diagonal line from the top left-hand corner. Behind the hill, the high rise buildings of Hong Kong appear in dark blue hue. Near the bottom left of the screen, there is a small area of illumination: it comes from a sports car snaking it's way up the winding road on the hillside. The car, and the very immediate surroundings are lit by the headlights of the car.

A day late, but had a good run recently.
