Many crows flying as a hiker walks along a dock in the dim light of dawn, below puffy rows of clouds that are lit pale pink by the rising sun. Most of the crows are blurry in the photo due to their motion and the low light. Overall it's a fairly spooky image.

The Swinomish Tribe is testing methods, including burning similar to their ancestors practiced, for supporting the growth of camas, a flowering root vegetable.

Grandmother Cedar above the Skagit River for #ThickTrunkTuesday. #Hiking

It is late autumn and there are leaves scattered around and sword ferns at the base of the tall trees. Red cedars were and are a hugely functional resource for indigenous people, who split boards from them for their houses, carved canoes, totems and boxes from them, used their bark for apparel and the dried wood as instant-flame kindling.
