As 2025 draws to a close and we reflect on the year in the Donkey Kong Universe, I think this screenshot would be the MOST surreal to me in December 2024.

Good vibes from Klaptrap! From this Direct but also the new Klaptraps modeled for Kongo Falls beforehand. @gothicteddybear.bsky.social and I were at the Nintendo NYC Store after the “Everyone Is Here” trailer in June 2018 and played demo matches there to check if they still were hazards!

Unlike last month's event, I was able to knock this one out during my lunch hour on the first day! I feel it was substantially more straightforward, despite the stress of navigating around Landfill Layer. No multi-day anxiety chasing Lanky here!

Why doesn’t Donkey Kong swim underwater in Bananza when he easily does it Donkey Kong 64 and most Country games? It’s a very small detail, but it’s communicated in animation when he briefly dips beneath the water: Pauline frantically holds her nose. She can’t swim, and DK doesn’t want to drown her!

Every single decision in this game is so well-considered, and all game mechanics have a justification in the universe of the game. It’s still staggering to me how much Nintendo EPD stuck the landing.
