Speaking of which, the big reasons I usually wear my nerd tailcoat on the airplane are that (1) it's pretty cozy and (2) it's got a bunch of pockets so normally I can just put everything into a coat pocket, throw the entire coat onto the X-ray belt, and waltz through the metal detector.

This is also how I found out that my nice dress shoes trigger the metal detector. And yes, it *does* feel ridiculous taking off your shoes in the PreCheck line.
