Will be the budget, I think. The duopoly of Starmer-McSweeney not understanding “don’t sack Lucy Powell, a well-liked and impressive organiser”, “don’t blunder into the Epstein row”, “the old right + depressed Blairites is not a sufficiently broad frontbench” will faceplant over child poverty.
“The absolute expiry date is May. But it could be the budget if that unravels in a spectacular way – and party conference is going to be an absolute nightmare.”

Personally, I think the 1997-2010 Labour Government served the country pretty darn well (with the notable exception of a disastrous foreign policy which destabilised the Middle East).

Labour can serve the country and also remain a broad church where dissent is tolerated.
“Tony Blair did some great things, one thing he didn’t do well enough was change the Labour Party”

Jake Richards argues Sir Keir Starmer’s tougher approach to Labour rebels compared to Tony Blair shows he’s leading a party “much more disciplined to serve the country”

It’s odd to me that “we need to restore Christian values to Europe” is not coded as anti-Semitic even though it is, quite literally, anti-semitism’s original form.

NEW: Labour peer and kindertransport refugee Alf Dubs tells News Agents that some of Keir Starmer’s language is reminiscent of Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech and says he wouldn’t have used some of the phrases. Says he doesn’t believe Starmer believes it.
"I'm unhappy senior politicians are using language reminiscent of [Enoch] Powell and I'm sorry Starmer used some of those phrases."

This is exactly the direction we need: investment in prevention, not just medical treatment.

Health outcomes depend on housing, income, and dignity.

Good to see @andyburnham.bsky.social recognise the need to put people – not just patients – at the centre of healthcare.

Net zero is a race for jobs. It's the only bit of the economy growing, outperforming every other part.

Whoever is briefing against net zero is briefing against economic growth and energy security.

If Reform do this they'll be wasting millions of pounds of taxpayers money fighting the Equality Act.

That's not serious, common-sense or grown up in any way.

On his 100th day in office in 2017 Trump headed to a PA wheelbarrow factory to launch his trade policy and put the US on the path to today’s tariffs.

Eight years on that factory is closed. The wheelbarrows are now made in China.

Yet, they will still look past it.

The politics of grievance towards 'others' trumps everything else.
Public opinion on issues like this is not unmovable - but this certainly goes agains the grain of even Reform voters, who are strongly opposed to allowing imports of chlorinated chicken to secure a trade deal

Any dedicated follower of Dem politics knows the outsized impact @benwikler.bsky.social has had in Wisconsin.

I still maintain the biggest strategic mistake the Dems made since Trump 2.0 was not electing this guy to run the DNC but, hey ho.

Big shoes to fill in the Badger State.
It's been the honor of my life to serve as Chair of WisDems for the last six years. With a pro-democracy Supreme Court secured for years to come, Wisconsin can reach for a trifecta in 2026. Our state party is in superb shape. So today, I’m announcing that, this summer, I’ll be passing the torch.🧵

Any journalist worth their salt would then ask Waltz: "Why on Earth are you communicating on an app where anyone could drop into the chat?"

These people are colossally dumb. Which makes the people who voted for them even dumber, and they should maybe take some responsibility for all this.
