Exciting to catch up with the drake Bufflehead that graced Point of Ayr #RSPB over high tide today. No sign of rings & behaving like a wild bird.

30th November marks Remembrance Day for Lost Species and we are remembering the Slender-billed Curlew.

We want to keep the name of the Slender-billed Curlew alive and hold it in our hearts as we learn from the loss.

This cannot happen again on our watch. 💔

Yesterday morning, after an overnight low of -1.7C, a female Palpita vitrealis on our garden olive tree, spotted by my daughter. Not something I was expecting to see after the recent frosts! Perhaps they can survive the winter now, even in Wales?

I ❤️ Leach’s Petrel
‘Some of the most remarkable creatures on the planet’

This summer a team from the RSPB travelled to North Rona – an uninhabited island about 44 miles north of Lewis – to survey one of Scotland’s most incredible birds: Leach’s Storm Petrel. 🌊

Rewarding seawatch at Point of Ayr this morning, with a single Leach’s Petrel and 3 Arctic Skuas including these two very dark chocolate brown juveniles. Beautiful markings. Glad I had my camera at the ready when they flew along the beach. #birdingwales @birdsinwales.bsky.social
