One acute problem with Trump it is hard to describe him accurately without sounding insane. Like, it comes off as weird to tell someone he’s the biggest threat the US has had in my lifetime but, also, he’s the dumbest person by far to ever occupy the office. Sounds insane, right?

I knew a majority would vote for him, but I really truly thought 15-20% would abstain and that would have been enough, but instead they they were more enthused for Trump than past GOP candidates. I respected them far more than they deserved.

I also appreciate how in some points they honor popular superstitions without fully endorsing them. Like there is this cool display for the crown of thorns relic but all the placards kind of equivocate and use language like “venerated by many as Jesus’ crown of thorns”.

I struggle to believe that Musk is smart enough for any of that. I encounter a lot of people online, supposedly smart people themselves, who swear he's a smart guy but in the entire time I've been aware of him I have never heard him sound smart for three sentences straight.

Not to pick on this relative, but there is a solipsism or narcissism buried at the heart of many people’s conception of God where either you don’t think about the guy who got bad results at all, or you think they are somehow not worthy like you.

This was what one relative posted in reaction to the No Kings protests. I think this is a pretty good summary of the heart of evangelical Christianity today. The main point of Jesus is not serving others, turning the other cheek, and so on, but relishing the future submission of everyone else.
