I swear that was going to be my guess. Duo, 90s, analog, Roland MPCs...

It would be a fun game to try to figure out to whom this article refers (without google's assistance).

Always wanted one of those.
The Autechre "Amber" FX box, if I recall.
Good luck finding a demo on YT that's not just some dude strumming is gee-tar through it, though

Indeed. Also, I can't get enough of the EP, Patashnik (Decrypted by Sketch).
Immense, evolving.

(To be fair to Korg, Noise Engineering has spoiled me with regards to ergonomic UI and mod matrix stuff)

One feature the software didn't have (which I suggested--can't believe it didn't have it) was the ability to right click on any parameter and assign it to a modulation source (LFO, EG/ENV, etc.) This is an incredible time-saver, as you had to manually select a src and attach it to a target

Very cool! I was one of the early adopters of the software (opsix Native) because it was cheaper. (I have enough hardware, anyway.)
The software offers excellent integration with sequencers, obviously, but the physical control surface is more immediate, and possibly, more fun

I don't know if you are a musician or artist, but you definitely don't have to be to have fun with sound.
Last night, I certainly had plans to make "real" music, but I was derailed by 2 hrs of sound-designing with opsix. Had just as much fun!

haha, KORG opsix of course!
Man, you can ask for much more out of an FM synth.
I mean, you can set an operator to be a comb filter for f*cks sakes.

Very nice, clean, crisp sound!

You really went headlong into modular!
November 13, 2025 at 1:57 AM
So true.
That's important!
Being bored ("Being Boring?") or at least concentrating on a single thing is an important skill.
Your mind hates to be bored, but it needs a break from time to time. Intentional listening is thearaputic.
