On a related note, send me all the NJ state leg bills you want passed.

I'm making a spreadsheet of bill numbers, whether they're stuck in committee or need a floor vote, which committees they're stuck in and who is on them, news articles explaining why they matter, etc.
Almost 10 times per day!

After Election Day, contact your reps about A1432/S1469. www.njleg.state.nj.us/bill-search/...

I talk a bit about the GCL question in Pitman here.

"The GCL is getting built."

Undeniably true, or missing something?

Whenever someone in the Yes to GCL facebook group expresses concern that the project may be in jeopardy, this is the go-to response.

Airports with play areas for small kids (Tokyo Haneda, Narita) are a godsend. I guess they'd only take away from precious bar space in the US.

It's the end of 2025 and the 2024 Uniform Crime Report is still not available from the NJ State Police. (Only Q1 2024.)

The incoming Sherrill admin may want to make public info more timely. And accessible: post all datasets on NJ's decent but sparse open data website.

Good political leadership can shape public opinion.

So we don't have good political leadership when it comes to the GCL. The strategy atm is to ignore the well-organized NIMBYs who dominate the media narrative.

I'm glad for progress on the GCL, but this is a dangerous game to play.

As good a time as ever to pick up this book on the nice society Finland is set to lose if the far right gets their way (& how it differs from the US economy, which in many ways is designed to fleece you).

Prob needs to be a state office with branches in major cities and each county. If the state decides to allow towns to care about police misconduct, it shouldn't wait for all 565 of them to also care, then setup agencies & staff them competently.
NEW in Bolts: Local officials in Newark, Jersey City, and Trenton want civilian agencies that can investigate police and issue subpoenas. But they keep running into the state’s Democratic leaders.

And tutoring. Much of the causal effect of charter schools on student outcomes is from in-school tutoring.
There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

It's silly if anyone is shaming caffeine consumption or just replacing it with sugar, but after years of coffee addiction I'm just sick of it.

I'm currently quitting caffeine (day 1 sux) & switching to herbal tea. I still like a nice hot drink so stfu water puritans.
Feels like the US has spent the last 5+ years on the verge of some kind of secular moral revival that keeps getting channeled into weirdo lifestyle puritanism
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj
