I would think if you are in that league, some estate planning would be strongly advised to offset some of the costs of passing on property & liquid assets. I don’t think that is a problem I’m ever likely to face.

I would have thought you’d not be liable till the property is sold: how can you tax people on an asset that has a nominal/estimated value: it’s only worth what an eventual purchaser is willing to pay for it: once’s there a sale, then the proceeds will be liable to tax, no?

Regularly amazed & appalled the media bends over backwards to accommodate, platform & schmooze the party of a guy who’s pet project divided the country & hammered the economy, with 5 MPs of dubious merit (+morals) in WM. World’s worst case of the tail wagging the dog, aided & abetted by the media.

What I don’t get with the wailing about IHT: you are getting something that wasn’t yours and you never paid for. If you’re a direct descendant there’s a higher threshold than distant relatives, but even in worst case scenario, you’re getting 60% of something you didn’t previously have.

Mentally exhausted & depressed that a government that called a lot of this out in opposition, is not only embracing the worst of Tory HO performatively cruel policies, they seek to go one worse. Why pile misery on failure when you could rethink this in a positive & humane way?

As a night owl who does their best work later in the day, I resent the semi-sainthood accorded to early risers, with the implication that they are somehow more productive and harder working because they start earlier. My body doesn’t work that way so why should I go thru hell to conform?

And since Gill’s conviction, a) crickets from most media and especially the RW press; and b) the ubiquitous Farage, with his perma-seat on the sofas of all politics programmes, is conspicuous by his absence. If this had been a member of any other party it would have been hammered for weeks.
