Riddle me this: is it a prerequisite that any Home Secretary must have strong authoritarian tendencies, or do they metamorphose into one upon assuming office?

When I see announcements like this, I have to ask - how many of the people out there who are so vehemently anti-migrant would actually pass English at an A-Level standard?
Migrants will need A-level standard English to work in UK

OFGS I bet most UK graduates don’t have A-level English due to dropping to 3 subjects. Where would they take this English A-level? Working in the UN years ago, a lot of non-native English speakers wrote better than mother tongue staff, and it was often their third language. British exceptionalism!🙄

He is far from alone.
Do you know how many people I know, journalists, thinktankers, civil servants, politicians, who always excel at explaining to you why what is currently happening was always bound to happen, from which they conclude that it should happen?

Given the abject horror that has taken place you'd think, for once that Trump wouldn't make it all about himself. But like a stuck record, there he is... going on about himself

Never going to kick the habit of a lifetime. Doing the greatest hits by having a pop at Hilary Clinton. Plus ça change. It is a very disturbing event and doesn’t have much of a peaceful feeling to it.

Watching the Bibi & Don Show treat this like some grand victory, while people returning to northern Gaza dig the rubble for loved ones' remains, is pretty revolting.

Listening on @LBC and it is disturbing & wholly the wrong tone for this day. The fact they warned people dissent would not be tolerated & only applause welcome spoke volumes. To then listen to the rewriting of history & denial of genocide was awful. It’s a victory parade instead of a day of peace.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

They have no clue the UK is not a Christian fundamentalist country. Having lived in the US years ago & ran the gauntlet of the pro-life lobby while attending antenatal appointments, I would take to the streets to oppose this nasty, punitive bunch here. They’re not pro-life, they’re anti-woman.

Corrupt chancers urged to come up with an economic plan that isn’t utter bullshit. So, no tax cuts and austerity on steroids for a country already stuck in Farage’s Brexit dead end.
But hey, some super wealthy industry big (k)nobs will come on board to help con the little guy.

Farage to abandon manifesto's big plans for tax cuts

Extracts:
Farage will break with his manifesto pledges of £90 billion in tax cuts as he attempts to bolster his party's economic credibility.
The leader of Reform UK will promise not to reduce taxes before reducing spending, deep cuts to the civil service and a ban on borrowing to fund government expenditure in his first big speech on the economy next month.

"Reform will never borrow to spend, as Labour and the Tories have done for so long; instead, we will ensure savings are made before implementing tax cuts.
I will have more to say on all this in the coming weeks."

Speaking on the campaign trail before the Caerphilly by-election to the Welsh parliament on October 23, he did not respond to demands to name his shadow chancellor but suggested he would soon be able to draw on backing from the business community.
Several high-profile figures from industry have privately indicated they would be willing to serve in a Reform cabinet, party officials said
Farage said: "We will be launching between now and the budget, a new campaign — an economic campaign ... it's going to be very impactful. It'll another high-profile individual coming into politics from outside of politics, who's been supremely successful in their world." Promising a "total change of attitude" on the economy, he said: "We are not a party dominated by corporate thinking. The Tories and La-bour are both dominated by corporate thinking."
The IFS has questioned whether
Reform's economic plans are credible warning last year that the party had overestimated how much it could save through spending cuts: "Even with the extremely optimistic
assumptions
about how much economic growth would increase, the sums in this manifesto do not add up."
Right-leaning think tanks have also urged the party to set out more credible policy. The Institute for Economic Affairs last month called for Reform to
"put some serious economic policies on the table".

The endless platforming and sane washing of Farage/Reform continues apace with a Times spread ahead of his revised financial policy, 3-4 years out from an election. Troubling that business backers are interested in serving in a Reform cabinet: I mean, that’s working so well across the pond..! 👀

As Trump was still president, Biden (or any incumbent in those circumstances) would have no authority to order any agency to take action on their behalf. Meanwhile, the guy in charge at that time, applauded the ‘patriots’ & held off calling in the national guard he’s now so keen on, for hours.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

I disagree.

RT if you agree it's in the public interest for Reform to explain about their links to Russian money and bribery!
