Given how keen landlords are for keeping cleaning deposits for the slightest little thing they'd probably charge over a million just to empty all the rubbish out. Have to wonder if they're charging more or less for the car being left there tho.

I started with Mort as a teen and would say that's as good a starting place as any. I see lots of people also suggesting Guards Guards and I'd agree with them too. Either of those would be a great start, both great standalone novels & also early enough that they're nice introductions to the world.

That was the first version I ever heard and as a result I prefer it. Also brings back happy/bittersweet memories of late wife playing it in the kitchen a lot.
