OU Norman Weather Alert – Jan. 22: OU to Close Beginning at 12 PM Friday, Jan. 23 Due to anticipated inclement winter weather conditions, the OU Norman campus will close beginning at 12 PM on FRIDAY, January 23. In-person classes scheduled to take place after 12 PM are canceled. OU Online students will continue regularly scheduled instruction. No remote work; eligible employees will take administrative leave after 12 PM. Essential employees should remain on or report to campus and follow their current schedules. OU-Tulsa and OU Health Campus are to follow the guidance issued for those specific campuses. Plans for Monday, January 26, will be announced on Sunday.

For no reason at all, here is near-surface potential temperature from a paper in 2016 where we looked at ways to evaluate the temperature structure parameter: one without mean wind and one with a 6 m/s wind. Grids are 2016x2016x1008 with 4-m spacing in the horizontal and 2-m spacing in the vertical.

After this weekend's rain, here is where Oklahoma City's precipitation stands as of today.
I scientific figure that shows the cumulative precipitation for Oklahoma City. the Max was 56.95" in 2007, the min was 17.84 in 1954, the average is 34.28", and the +/- standard deviation was 42.19 and 26.37. The mean is a black line, the standard deviation area is shaded white, the max is red and min is blue. The current year is shown in yellow and the value so far is 37.99.

Last week marked the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. I visited New Orleans for the AMS annual meeting in January 2008. My friends and I barely spoke as we explored the surrounding areas. It felt like we entered a photo — a horror frozen in time, filled with the shadows of ghosts.
