But also the cosmos is BIG and fucking ancient - shit's probably way fucking weirder in actuality than we can conceive & we're missing the forest for the trees.

Very possibly.

I can't remember if it was you or someone else who also pointed out the availability of specific metals on a planet could also be a major factor.

Mostly dont love it because he’s an evil man set on returning humanity to nature (derogatory) and we shouldn’t pretend he isn’t an avatar to the darkest parts of humanity

But yeah: the idea that if humans broadly knew about the existence of vampires, the vamps would be get rolled HARD - which [gestures at "scary vampire vs. hydrogen bomb" meme], yeah - is pretty standard.

IIRC (been awhile since I watched it), I think one of the catalyzing events of True Blood is the development of synthetic blood so that vampires can go "Hey, guyssss, so, yeah: we exist, we don't want to hide anymore. But DON'T. WORRY. We got our little potions so you don't have to be juice boxes."

It's also pretty standard in a lot of vampire fiction set in the modern day (e.g. Vampire the Masquerade, etc.)

Honestly? From the start I saw it as a Gnostic parable about selfhood and systems of control and, personally, saw that second question examined all throughout the series.

"These beings are obviously like you in more ways than you care to admit and you abuse them horrifically, what does that say?"
