You can just walk between the buildings outside. It's usually not *that* cold. The skywalk just likes to get crowded and wet from condensation.

If you ever think a cons dates are weird it's usually a safe guess that it's something like "it was a good price for the venue, a good date for the main staff, and it didn't conflict with any other big cons"
