Eventually I moved on to other programming languages (and got a girlfriend and a social life) but the memory of those days staying up all night writing text adventure games in BASIC with my high school friends still makes me smile.

Later I convinced my parents to buy me a computer, and spent even more hours at home typing in BASIC programs from magazines and eventually writing my own.

I remember spending hours learning BASIC by hanging out at the Radio Shack in the mall, writing programs on the TRS-80 until the store clerks would chase me away.

I know, it started off feeling like hanging out with friends at a party, and ended up more like shouting "anyone want to hear a joke?" at a bar fight. So far this place feels like the former; I hope it stays that way.
