I’m always suspicious of moderates within the Autistic human rights movement (who are soft on things like ABA, Autism Speaks, cures, eugenic testing, and stigmatizing, heavily medicalized pathological language), as their neutrality and apathy hinders us as a movement.

And that’s the crux of autism-vaccine fears: It’s not enough to affirm that vaccines don’t cause autism. We also have to affirm that autism is not something to fear, that autistic lives are worth living and supporting, and that autistic people deserve to exist and be loved. 22/

I also wish very much that folks would read some older writing by self-advocate & neurodiversity bloggers, and some of the older books out there... because it can really feel like a whole cohort of newly-dx'd people is trying to reinvent the wheel of what we already know every 5 yrs or so.
There's a whole trend now where autistic people are blowing up on social media and getting brand and book deals within a year or two of diagnosis and I wish they'd take some time to reflect how much of their current ability to accept themselves and thrive is attached to their ability to monetize.

‘Create an atmosphere of “solitary confinement”’ – yikes! 😮
This is from a well-regarded book for professionals on Understanding School Refusal. They recommend creating solitary confinement for your child if they aren’t at school. I have never seen this recommended in any other mental health treatment book. Why do we put up with it when it comes to school?

Today in Hell Yes, Research! Despite decades of use on non-speaking autistics, research shows that ABA therapy has never been even SLIGHTLY useful to them.

A damning article by Gary Shkedy, Dalia Shkedy & Aileen H. Sandoval-Norton.
