Was great catching up with you last week and I emailed you on Friday about what we discussed.

We found that methadone has become a key bargaining chip in police interviews. Persons denied methadone in custody but will get a small dose on arrival at prison, leading to confessions. Different strategies over time, similar outcomes.

Shame that Denmark has joined the NPM and neoliberal craze. I'm sure your public services are still better funded than ours (UK) (and my experience from simply walking the streets of Copenhagen that it is far better welfare support), but I'm sure that will reduce given the political changes. Shame

Especially given the filthy and contaminating contexts in which penile swabs are collected, as I'll be discussing Thursday (see you then!).

Agreed, I'd be happy with Danish immigration policy when we have Danish style tax system and quality of public services.

"Most people", who have they got writing for The Torygraph these days? Failed first year social scientists?

Had to describe one respondent's allusion to the "Vengabus" in a chapter I have written recently. Loved it (although. not the song, obviously).

Great video. Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter announced for release September 2026. The game is peak. I would cool your jets on Trails (to avoid spoilers as characters and in-game newspapers often discuss events from past games) and wait until second chapter is out. You'll love it.

He's been watching too much BBC recently. This is exactly how many of their impartial "Experts" (read as right-wing goons) talk about any kind of benefits in the UK.

My experience is that university administrations are understaffed and overburdened, resulting in the prioritising of major projects. Smaller projects are delayed as they keep getting pushed to the back of priority queues. By the time you get the MOU or whatever is needed, the timeliness has passed

I've read many an article developed from generic court reporting (most of the sleepsex press articles were traced back to one local journo who was in court). They are normally low-skilled and low paid and then other journos have to produce a story from that briefing. No wonder quality is low.

"It's DNA, it's ridiculous numbers, it has to be true!!!" That there is no understanding of context is deplorable. Unfortunately, a recent media briefing I was at did not give me hope. Journalists are worried about losing their jobs to AI, so this kind of contextless pap will only get worse.

"Gloves found in a person's flat have enormous probability of belonging to them" Shocker! Cannot see from this report how those gloves are connected to the crime scene. Poor reporting, poor expert testimony or a bit of both?

And they wonder why we're so opposed to ID cards! The State does not have the bureaucracy and infrastructure for it, and cases like this prove that.

I think the report says Murphy was taking a private legal action against Sheffield Hallam based on the free speech legislation, so, no I don't expect OfS to do anything, but that a researcher was empowered to act against their cowardly institution I see as a good thing.

At least!

Just had to confirm that my UKRI review did not use AI (including spellchecker, grammatical correction). I can confirm, all typos are my own work!
