Reminds me of when @deecooke.bsky.social and I lived in Edinburgh. Dee wanted humane traps (largely high-pitched audio) and I could swear that one day I saw a mouse perform The Macarena to it. After that, resorted to good, old fashioned poison.

I think it might be the scattershot approach of the advertising (for instance, why are they on my Facebook feed, I don't even live in Scotland?). I wonder if more thought could have been placed on where information should be provided. Where it would be most effective.

Instead we should be "fighting" the epidemic of VAWG at every turn and showing men (of all ages) that GBV (in all its forms) is unacceptable. As I say, while informing is important, this feels more like normalisation and I fear that will have unintended consequences.

My ambivalence derives from the normalisation of Gender and Sexual Based Violence and not as something that should be challenged and contested at every turn. Sure, there are those who rightly say that violence is normal for women and girls, but this seems to me the wrong response...

Was discussing this with a Scottish Civil Servant. They were keen for adverts for SARCs, so people can discuss and "rate them like coffee shops". While I agree people need information without CJS involvement, I'm still ambivalent on widescale advertising, e.g. Facebook.

I'm sure there's much going on behind the scenes, but from the journal I edit, getting reviewers is tough. Reviewing runs on goodwill and that is in short supply. Add to that publishers pushing AI platforms that actually make it harder to identify reviewers and it the perfect storm for slow reviews.

Speaking to the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners today about the findings from our Police Custody Healthcare project and what PCCs can do. Going to advise them to request data of how frequently custody suites have embedded healthcare as better staffing is a good first step.

Bear with me, I anticipate your disagreement. There is a clear pattern to the advice given to those who want to press back against rising racism. What it boils down to is that if you point out that racism is often being dressed up as “legitimate concerns” you will alienate people. /1
