Prep progress from start to finish. We tend to prep out the bottom first as that side is pressed into the mud during deposition and tends to have less disturbance. Prep took 2 days using X-Acto knives, air scribes and sandblasting using baking soda. 2014 was a bumper crop of Stupid Xiphactinus

Luckily access to the digsite was fairly easy and low overburden, so we got this specimen out in just a few hours. It's nice when you can back your field truck right up and not have to haul 50 pound bags of plaster for a half mile on your shoulder.

This was late in the fall Kansas season so we ended up getting visited in the quarry by a couple horny tarantulas. What fun!

In the field these clunky jaw bones are pretty easily identifiable, and the lone black tooth sticking out helps too.

Fish usually aren't built to heavily but in this case, the skull might as well be made of bricks.

あと小学校に上がるって結構な変化で「自分もお年玉というやつが欲しい」と要求した。それまで買い物は「親について行ってねだって買ってもらうモノ」だと思っていたので学校で吹き込まれ「そうかクリスマスの直後に正月にはお年玉をもらってさらに欲しいものを入手するのか！」という回路が出来上がった。
もちろんミニ四駆の部品を買ったよね。モーターとダウンスラストローラー。取り付けるとアリイ製のコースでは壁の高さが足りずローラーが無駄になった…いきなりコースが「不満なプレゼント」になってしまった。その後小さいタイヤを買って車高の方を下げて対処した。コースに合わせたセッティング概念の誕生である。
