From Chomsky to Bernie to the Your Party fiasco, it’s not looking good for the old new left. Only Melanchon seems to have any sense. Why can’t they just retire to enjoy their last years in the community garden and making everyone happy with cameos at demonstrations.

The old idealist chauvinist left can’t shake its fetishization of white men in hard hats hitting things with wrenches. That’s not who workers are or how production looks anymore! The trades & blue collar as well as service work is full of immigrants! Border paramilitaries always will target the left

I guess what’s aggravating is how this political strategy keeps failing: how’s Keir Starmer doing? Sara Waggenecht? You’re not going to create a socially parochial US left (like Southern/Eastern European communist parties). You’re making a moral compromise that fails and cedes ground tactically.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.
he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.
situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.
