I've grown some of mine, including these, from seed. I subsequently lost these ones in a bad frost (despite being in the porch) although I was able get enough material for two cuttings of the beautiful red one (the name of which I vividly forget). Looking forward to it flowering again.

Given the outrageous flaunting of wealth and privilege by the French aristocracy I can somehow understand what provoked the raging reaction of the sans coullottes but you did not have the same disparities between classes in Nazi Germany nor, indeed, in the modern USA.

I garden in Ireland where cacti can have a tough time in the coldest months but I have a few which repay the trouble of cultivating them in mutiples.

Parallels with the rise of Fascism in Europe are remarkable. First, the election of a hate-filled fool gives you permission to be one also. Then you strive to outdo other fools in hateful foolishness in a bid to impress him. It spirals out of control soon afterwards.

Read Anne Enright's novel about her years back "The Pleasure of Eliza Lynch". Was surprised to learn afterwards much of it was historically correct.
