Also, what he says about HCR is fundamentally wrong. She discusses popular opinion in her synopses of history and current events. I think she'd be surprised that he thinks she discounts popular will.

How is it possible the Dems don't understand by now that, by definition, if Republicans support it, it's bad? They don't even have to read the bill.

Where I live, they do not assign full books at all in elementary school and assign just a few books in middle school, but my high schoolers have each read 6-8 books per year, even in non-AP classes.

when people say, "how could we know if our kids are learning and how effective different systems are" if they don't take the state-mandated yearly standardized NCLB tests, I remind them of the ITBS
MAP testing in 3rd, 5th, 8th might be reasonable.

Theoretically, they could devise standardized testing that doesn't impact education, but they have incentivized teaching to the test. We used to take the ITBS every other year when I was in school in the 80s, which was fine. I don't think curricula were shaped by it.

It's just bizarre. A racist wants the lives of POC to be worse than the life of the racist bc the racist doesn't think the POC deserve better. There is no possibility common cause. How is that not obvious?

My youngest has not been assigned an entire book to read during k-5th. (I suppose they were made to read entire early readers when they were learning to read.) She reads on her own, and reading is part of the homework, but there's no accountability for that, and it's not part of the curriculum.

Teaching to the test has harmed public education. This is part of that. Reading comp is tested with passages. So they teach passage reading exclusively. It kills attention span and interest.

The idea that they'd spot baddies based on social media data voluntarily provided seems dubious to me. Wouldn't a clever terrorist have thought not to leave a social media trail? Indeed, someone who is really clever wouldn't use social media ever. The only thing they're after is disfavored speech.
