Where did ten years just go?
Discussion with youngest, who objected to seeds in some grapes. I pointed out that seedless grapes would be gone in one generation if left to their own devices, and so not as nature intended, which led him to ask the intriguing question “if a grape doesn’t have a seed, is it even a fruit?”

I’ll pretend that I deliberately took this photo out of focus to give it a dream like quality, but it does at least give an interesting look to the Stinking Dapperling, a fairly anonymous looking mushroom, although it packs a punch if you’re ever daft enough to eat it.

Nice to hear I’m not the only one for whom every thing is an opportunity to bore the kids with interesting tree facts. This morning it will be Osage oranges and woolly mammoths over breakfast…
My almost 10-year-old son has a couple of friends over, and I just happened to have some Osage oranges that I collected yesterday—because I'm thinking of planting a tree—and so of course I had to grab the chance to teach the kids the delightful facts about Osage oranges and woolly mammoths:
