I have finally gotten to the excellent section after the replay where the designers ask GMs to consider whether all example gm made the correct rulings. Excellent pedagogy that helps GMs understand how many rulings are typically done by the GM. It echoes Blades in the Dark and Apocalypse World.

One thing I noticed was this lovely ligature between the R and H in the title. It may be a standard feature of the typeface but it does a lovely job of emphasizing the title is a single word, and cutting into the H is a+ typography for the wordmark.

I picked up this neat french board game, Turing Machine which is a clever analog logical deduction game. I need to run it for some Ottawa locals.

One of the little side-effects of the long developmental cycle for Songfall Survivors is that I accidentally misplaced one of the lovely portraits that @claudiacanginiart.bsky.social drew for the project, only to rediscover it yesterday.

Now, the fact that I even have to mention that peoples living on reserves don't all have access to safe drinking water is a lasting shame. That said, I will recognize that the former government did a lot of work and did admirably fix the majority of the long-term drinking water advisories.

Every layout pro has made these mistakes. As a clear example, I accidentally used the wrong text style for the "Step 7" heading so it didn't match "Step 8". The cover of Sig: Manual of the Primes had a secret typo. Step 4 is terrible and the only thing worse is when you don't do it.

This thread was inspired by a concrete example in the image below. I noticed that the body text under heading 1 and under heading 2 were slightly misaligned. I had a couple ways of changing this like tweaking the master page, increasing the space after heading 2, or reducing space after heading 1.

Step 2 is about Bulk Layout, where you dump all of the text and images onto the page using the existing master pages. You spend much of your time flowing the text between text frames, applying your standard paragraph styles, inserting images, and even applying character styles. This is quantity.

Step 1 of layout is actually where much of the technical skill is required and it means that layout templates are stupidly valuable. If you can't afford for a pro to do all of your layout, hire one to build all the templates for you instead and you can do the rest.
