Had missed this story in the Miami Herald about a man that already been granted refugee status being removed under the Alien Enemies Act declaration to CECOT. The other identified removals I'd heard of were undocumented or asylum seekers, first I'm hearing of approved refugees being targeted
Despite refugee status in the U.S., young Venezuelan was deported to Salvadoran prison
E.M. and his girlfriend fled persecution in their native Venezuela in 2021 and dreamed of making a new life in the United States.

Folks have been writing about how the rollback of DEI is segregationist which is absolutely true, but to add, so too are the deportations. Immigration policy in the US has a long history of servicing white supremacy — and it literally denies the co presence of people of color.

I spent so much ink on Gitmo in my book about concentration camps because it was clear that by failing to eliminate detention there, this is where we've been headed for decades. What the US has already done is horrific, and in an unconstitutional no-man's-land, we face the possibility of much worse.

A memo leaked to the Associated Press reveals that the White House has told the U.S. CDC to stop working with the WHO immediately.

This breaks protocol which requires the approval of Congress and a one-year notice to leave the WHO.

I was interviewed by @msjpauly.bsky.social for @motherjones.com regarding that awful gamete size "sex" executive order. A bit of an explainer here of why the science is so bad, and why that's dangerous:
Trump’s definitions of "male" and "female" are nonsense science with staggering ramifications

The way “global health” people have stated the value of WHO to the US (and to the world) and what’s at stake in US withdrawal from WHO has been very revealing of the strong neocolonial tendencies/undercurrents that shape how people do “global health” and how the field works.

President Trump signed an executive order denying birthright citizenship to babies of a parent "unlawfully present" in the US. The EO draws heavily upon a phrase inserted into the 14th A. to deny Native people citizenship--an effort to shield colonialism and dispossession from the Constitution. 1/
