Katori’s a real good character. She leaves a negative impression at first, but at the end of the day she’s only an average, if aggressive but not unkind, girl. She and her squad as a whole have come a long way.

Kako reiterates one of Hyuse’s points, but yeah, the way she puts it really shook me the first time. Whenever I tried and quit something, it was always because I couldn’t find a way to make guaranteed progress, and I’d get stuck, frustrated, and quit. But that’s wrong.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing, or how high the mountain you’re trying to climb. Just by being alive, you’ve learned how to do countless things you couldn’t before. As long as you’re alive, there is nothing you cannot do.

I think everyone who’s tried to improve at something, competitive or otherwise, knows how Wakamura feels. Surely, that special something that can propel us to the top exists… right? But while you’re looking, everyone else is improving anyways… and you haven’t moved an inch.

Such a critical lesson… it’s why I’ve started trying to give myself deadlines for my writing. Just gotta get better at enforcing them…

If I posted everything I liked from Hyuse’s breakdown of Wakamura I’d just end posting the whole damn thing, so I’ll just say this: I adore that in one fell swoop Ashihara develops a side character, proves Hyuse acknowledges Osamu’s abilities, and shows how far Osamu has come. Fantastic 2 chapters.

The Away Mission Test arc is really fun cuz when I read it for the first time I liked to look at the assignments and see how well I’d do. Can’t do that anymore, of course, but I remember being pretty proud of myself.

As a linguistics enthusiast I’m always overjoyed whenever stories deliberately include moments where characters get tripped up over different words representing the same thing.
As an aside, Yuma’s old nation uses Japanese words, compared to other Europe-adjacent nations, which is interesting.

It’s long overdue but I’m glad Ashihara finally explicitly outlined Chika’s thought process. I remember she used to get a lot of flack, but her attitude is completely understandable. She shouldn’t have to be, but she’s strong.

He’s got a sharp tongue, but this talk needed to happen. Hyuse was just the best fit. As expected of a 16 year old boy through and through. In unrelated news, he’s canonically a Bomberman fan. Funny how all the Neighbours living in Mikado get attached to one form of media or another.
