Something is seriously wrong here. I think the only path for Open AI to make revenues is to copy Google and Facebook and my monetize their users via surveillance tech. Not saying that's good or bad per se. But it is what it is. At least admit it. Subs to GPT Pro won't do it.

Imagine looking at the war in Ukraine and not being able to identify who the "imperialist war machine" is. What a plonker.

I mean they really should be something across the whole route - the amount of noise in Douglas is mad - but people have internalised it. If the noise was gone (or mostly gone) people would notice fast.

Sure but - we should copy other European countries who actually comply with noise directive guidance and put up physical barriers. For example barriers here in blue will prevent the noise across Douglas and Rochestown. I think people are so used to the noise they assume it's normal.

Interesting. Trespass would be a novel approach arguably.

Lads. Did anyone in The Phoenix do any checking on this story? Because the Norwegian publication that it likely originated from has deleted it.

They don't have to be even cut out - they're designed to be lifted out of the holes that exist for them. Someone could do it in 15 minutes. A fecking decade of inaction - and I'm being generous.

Two years later: August 2025. The pole remains. A testament to the general dysfunction of Cork. The city is not maintained. This pole has existed in a redundant form for at least 5 years, but really more like a decade plus. And that's just one example of the dysfunction.

Two years ago in August 2023 I tweeted about it - wondering why a redundant pole was protected by two bollards.

By October 2021 and post pandemic decisions around general removal of traffic from the street the pole on the right remains, now with no traffic lights or CCTV cameras. But a pole protected by two bollards.

(and CCTV cameras were added to top also). By 2019 the traffic light on the left is completely gone, while the one on the right still has the CCTV cameras - but no traffic lights.

Five years later in 2014, the lights were clearly no longer in use. probably time to take them down.

I have countless examples of how, as Kev says, the people working in City hall don't care about the city. But let's take just one: In 2009 Oliver Plunkett street was open to cars and had traffic lights outside the post office.

Did anyone seal the newly installed paving in Cork before opening to the public? This happened before. Here's Tuckey Street? Maybe seal it before allowing stains to embed in the stone?
