I'm always shocked that Glenn doesn't get the same hate Alex Jones does, because they're doing a lot of the same things except Glenn wears sweaters and talks quietly while Alex screams and drinks "apple juice" from a cup he hides under the desk.

No worries! I totally agree, his video was a fun, well-crafted look at one specific negative aspect of the modern AI ecosystem, but it wasn't anything new or groundbreaking. I don't know if I learned anything new really, but it sure was cathartic haha.

I was about to ask about your Burback take haha. He's also a moustachioed fella, but his recent AI delusion video was some kind of performance art in my opinion.

Im American around Kurtis' age, so I vibe with some of his stuff. Definitely a "doing dishes" level of content, though. I respect him not being your flavor.

I'm with you. He's just making content, and doesn't have much to say outside jokes imo. He recently was talking about "performative males" and had a whole bit where he was pointing out it basically describes his vibe, which I thought was very funny. That's the only reason he came to mind.

Tech guys like Gates, Jobs and Zuckerberg did horribly unethical shit that came to light 10 years later. This new breed of tech guys are less patient, and want people to know within a year or two. How else will they build their brand?

Real talk, Trump is an old man. I'm sure he has no recollection of Mamdani and just finished having a lovely conversation with him and is now thinking "what a cool young guy who was very nice to me".

Beyond that, the power load required is not distributed across the whole infrastructure, it's concentrated to data centers, which puts strain on the surrounding communities. Just because that might not affect you specifically doesn't mean it's not bad.

The general issue is: you often don't save time on GPT vs web searching, because GPT often needs to be verified. GPT IS NOT an alternative to a search engine and using it that way, despite its marketing, is a misuse of the tech.
The other aspect is model training, which is increasingly intensive.

People are weird about AI, generally, especially here on bluesky. I'm a certified AI hater, but I've seen some people essentially saying: "it's all bad and ever using it even once makes you evil and deserving of harassment." Which just strikes me as way too far.

Little short dystopian story idea: A shoplifter is assigned a bot for 6 months. Society has normalized dehumanization of people with bots, and some folks assault him. The robot is only programmed to stop his crimes, so as he tries to fight back the bot stops him, while he is beaten to death.

I agree with you on matters of taste, and this guy particularly. But I will stand up for interior design as a profession: interior designers need an understanding of how to design an efficient and comfortable space for humans, which DOES take training and expertise. It's not only an aesthetic job.

Very glad they offer a powder version now, it strikes me as a good move, but nearly 4x the price for 3x less detergent is not a pill I can afford to swallow.

I do struggle with the ecogeek brand, the $26 pricetag is really tough to justify when a mainstream powder brand can be bought for $7 online and comes in a non-plastic box for a much larger size.

Having lived in the rural midwest and the suburban north: suburban fascists are louder and angrier because they are fueled by making their liberal neighbors uncomfortable. Rural fascists are surrounded by other fascists, usually, so they tend to be less aggressive. That's my experience.

"Who cares if it's not factually true, it feels good to believe" is the root of so many of the most horrible human tendencies. The internet, and now AI, is just the latest iteration of that.
Like, hey. If it's not real, maybe that means it's not real.

Really showing your privilege here, Robert. Not everybody has big podcast money that lets you run through all those .300wm rounds like nothing. Some of us plebians have to settle for more economical 9mm.
