Within the first few minutes of Tuesday’s House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing on planned Republican Medicaid cuts—which would render more than 8 million Americans uninsured—a contingent of protesters entered the room in Washington. Here is what happened⬇️

catch me on It Could Happen Here today talking to former super-max prisoner Eric King about the state's attempts to put women into men's prisons, why everyone should care about that, and a ton of concrete things that you can do to keep trans prisoners safer at various levels of risk.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Now is a good time to get into preparedness, wherever you are. Being individually prepared is a good way to be in a better position to help others.

Your basic goal, to start, is to be ready for three days in your home without power or water and to be able to leave quickly if need be.

My heart is so heavy.

None of these crises are separate. They all have the same source. Unrepentant greed by capitalists. They create problems that are profitable for them to not solve.

I just pray we connect the dots real fast because the stakes are higher than they've ever been.
