the specific flavor of america's terribleness is centered in the heart of those 'tonic salesman' types of the past and their inheritors. it is not just that america is selling you bullshit. it is not just that it's poisonous. it is also that the sales pitch itself is incredibly fucking gaudy.

In conclusion there was only ever one good alt-comix guy, it definitely wasn't Harvey Pekar or Bob Crumb, he was in the comics section of every paper and he's never received a fraction of the love he deserves
