Yes, we primarily do this because of Colorado and Utah 😀 Also looking forward to driving through Arizona and New Mexico again (but everything from Texas to Georgia will be boring)

And now hearing about the pre-holiday stress and family debates about who celebrates what, where, when, how, and with whom, spending 67 hours in a car sounds quite nice.

Based on what I’ve heard from Hungarians, my sense is they might not necessarily like Magyar, but he seems to be an acceptable candidate because he's overall pro-EU and otherwise ‘ideologically thin’ as he's primarily campaigning on anti-corruption and economy/quality of life issues they care about

His ability to perform that balancing act certainly plays a role, but from what I’ve seen, much of his support comes from former opposition voters. Daniel Kovarek’s study of Tisza voters also shows that he drew support from all sides in the EP election, but most from opposition parties/abstainers
Elite defection and opposition realignment in Hungary: Respect and Freedom Party (TISZA) in the 2024 European Parliamentary elections
The 2024 European Parliamentary elections yielded an opposition landslide in Hungary. Respect and Freedom (TISZA), a genuinely new party led by a Fidesz defector, emerged as Orbán's unequivocal cha...

“Victims of feminism”: exploring networked misogyny and #MeToo in the manosphere
The manosphere is a detached set of websites and social media groups united by the belief that men are oppressed victims of feminism. Even though the manosphere has existed since the early 2000s, i...

Also, interesting gender gap, with a higher share of women than men thinking a fundamental change in the political system is needed. We can probably all think of reasons why that might be.

The question is of course somewhat vague as we don't know what respondents think of when asked about the political system. Still, worth noting that the # of people who believe "a fundamental change" is needed is up 6 points since 2023. And the FPÖ campaigned on a platform of "system change" in 2024.

The irony is that the video mostly features beautiful Budapest, and far-right, non-Hungarian Orbán bros in the comments are praising the city. Well, hate to break it to you, but Budapest is governed by the opposition.

Orbán’s Hungary is paying 1 million a day for breaking EU law, but for this government, it’s a badge of honour to pay that rather than provide Hungarians with, for example, adequate healthcare services.

To be fair, I don't understand the rules so probably every game would be boring to me 😂

We came, we saw, we left early.

I love the anons on here who provide me with answers to my rhetorical questions, which I might have discussed anyway in an upcoming piece for the Hungarian Observer given my own expertise (yes, really!), but please keep explaining things to me I already know.

It's not like people in Hungary didn't know the regime was corrupt, but Magyar was an insider with a lot of information on the Orbán regime's inner workings and also published recordings of his ex-wife discussing the government's meddling in corruption investigations, etc.
