A few weeks ago, we were thinking about going back to Europe pre-Christmas, but with the shutdown, FAA flight disruptions and me not wanting to spent another 3 days in a row stranded at ATL we scrapped those plans… and now we think taking a 67 hours cross-country roadtrip is a much smarter idea. 💡🚘

Also, interesting gender gap, with a higher share of women than men thinking a fundamental change in the political system is needed. We can probably all think of reasons why that might be.

Whenever you think this can’t get any lower, Orbán proves otherwise.

Orbán is posting right-wing extremist tourism ads, and Austria’s most prominent right-wing extremist, Martin S., responds to this post with "Right decision." Well then.

November can actually be very pleasant if you’re not in continental Europe 🍁🍂

Latest polling from 🇦🇹 with the far right at 37%. But instead of claiming there’s no alternative to the far right dominating politics, remember when social democrats led the polls between spring and autumn 2022, before their latest self-destruction exercise? It didn’t have to be this way.

For the crowd still raving about the Danish Social Democrats, convinced that all social democratic parties should adopt their course.

I’ll leave this chapter in the (very long) book of "Stuff I worried about that actually turned out fine".

Really happy to share that I officially passed my oral comprehensive exams last week, the final part of this months-long process, which means I can now claim the fancy title of "PhD Candidate". 🥹

Epstein, Bannon, Austrian ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz 🤷🏻‍♀️

Re Chancellor Merz's cityscape comments: The Austrian far-right Freedom Party is jumping on the bandwagon and has now posted a short video, "comparing" the old vs the new cityscape.

Quite remarkable how a "conservative" politician's remark resonates so strongly with the far right and their agenda.

Headline in the Austrian daily @derstandard.at: "How does the narcissist in the White House react to the loss of voter support?"

10/10, no notes.
November 7, 2025 at 8:52 PM
Such a stupid headline, not even two weeks after this banger, btw (which likewise engages with Helen Andrews' "ideas")

From the series, "women, always too much and never enough". 🤷🏻‍♀️

The "good things" they did for the country, such as the ÖVP-FPÖ's labour law, which reintroduced a 12-hour workday.

And yes, the cordon sanitaire does actually work, as studies show.

If you already insist on having lunch with and giving a politically irrelevant ex-chancellor of a small EU country a platform, then at least do everyone a favour and consult political scientists to comment on and fact-check some of his outlandish poli-sci claims.

Just the Department of Homeland Security, using a term hijacked and popularised by the extreme-right Identitarian Movement.
