If the anemia can be managed, and the FIP treatments continued, we still have to solve eating, possible food aversion, but that could clear up with the above treatments. Thank you for reading this and considering further help.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
Despite FIP support groups insisting they be started, I couldn't convice a vet until last Tuesday we absolutely needed them.with the FIP. So this is what I hope Trenta can conquer this week.

Which means I have to administer the injections and hope we can keep the supply going. (Read sometime about how it was a story of black market purchases just to get this far before FDA approval.)

She's also on her fourth day of steroid treatment.

So I had to reach out to a FIP support group. They can get me the injectibles. I'm picking them up tomorrow after we see the regular vet. There's a grey market for it because the industry has decided, despite many FIP support groups' input, to go the oral route for convenience.

What we were not informed of was that injectable GS-441524 is superior in potency and efficacy. She got one shot of that upon discharge. But the hospital will not provide more injections nor send her home with any. Neither do regular vets.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
Again, though, there was no proper advice and no up-to-date guidance for giving a cat GS-441524. I got the oral suspension medication because of her complete intolerance for powder or pills.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
I am very grateful for the donated grey market injectables. Treating her with FIP medications help.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
I also have had donated a few doses of a more effective FIP injectable (see below). FIP can take up to four months to treat. The less effective oral medication I have is about 3 months worth (was $450).

Local vets no longer do transfusions. These are the IMMEDIATE options needed.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
My rough estimates of the cost based on Chewy Pharmacy (IF my prescriber will let me use a third party pharmacy) is as follows:

3. Transfusion:
VERG Hospital: $2100 to $2500 ($700 to $800 for transfusion, plus hospitalization, blood typing, and and associated costs).
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
We have at least one more vet visit:

1. Next visit: $300 to $450

2. Bone Marrow Stimulation: Varenzin-CA1

$60 for 25mg/ml solution in 27ml bottle
2.7ml once daily for 28 days = $180

Thankfully, the very recently approved medication Varenzin-CA1 works for nonregenerative anemia associated with

So far we have about $950 left from your contributions after vet visits, tests, medications, car trips, and at-home care supplies.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
So that was time lost and damage accumulated. Our options are as follows, with estimates for the costs.

The stress on her kidneys from FIP is partly responsible, but she also had (and is still being treated for) a severe bladder infection. It took nearly a week for the hospital to get the urine culture back. Before the results, they had prescribed the wrong antibiotic.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
But food can only get her so far. Kidney damage and kidney stress can reduce the levels of the vital hormone the kidneys make that tell the bone marrow to make more red blood cells.

I'll list the options below, after some background on her current state and complications. Trenta's anemia is aggravated in part by her lack of appetite.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
So please share THIS update! It will help Trenta immensely. We are going back to the regular vet for an evaluation and options.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
Details are below, but we are looking at a range between $1000 to Again, sharing it has more impact than you might suspect. I am grateful for the loves, the likes, and the positive messages. I hate to say it though, but I see very few shares on Facebook despite the visibility.

The anemia is a major factor complicating the FIP infection. We can't beat the infection without addressing her anemia, which I'll explain below. I would be very grateful if you would consider a further donation.
November 21, 2025 at 5:24 AM
She has severe anemia which we must address. That's going to cost and so I am asking for anyone who has donated so far to please consider doing so again. Her condition is fixable if we can get her red cell count up.

I miss the days when Carl Sagan was everywhere, giving people wonder and knowledge, fighting demagogues and deceptive dialog. Too bad the consolidation of media companies have made such things harder.
