Past changes happened over thousands or millions of years. Today’s change is happening 100 times faster, and the cause is overwhelmingly anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, not natural cycles.

B.C. emergency management:
• Access between Lower Mainland and Interior closed
• Nooksack River topped its banks around 2pm, water going across border to Sumas prairie
• Rainfall in Fraser Valley now easing up
• Nooksack flows expected to peak ~10pm, hold til 4-6am, then decline

I’ll be interested to see the data telling me how much more likely and how much more damaging this event was because of human caused climate change.

apart from dike repairs Abbotsford made no significant improvements in west Sumas flood preparedness since 2021

City of Abbotsford declares state of local emergency. Evacuation order issued for 371 properties in Sumas Prairie West, evacuation alerts for Sumas Prairie East and remain in place for rest of Sumas Prairie West and Clayburn Village.
