Pagan sword-fighting dad who writes, rides a motorcycle, teaches math, and explores labyrinths. He/Him, BFC
Gee, thanks RWS. I love being told off by a pile of cardboard.

Yes, I'll get to grumble grumble work. I know what I need to do and now I need to stop thinking and do it. Justice will be done.

I fed my family by making a campfire and roasting hotdogs, but now everyone else has gone inside. I sit alone by the fire pit waiting for the right time to stomp out the final coals.

The northern lights! Aurora Borealis!

Some historians have claimed that medieval northern European cultures thought that the northern lights were the Valkyries claiming einherjar. An appropriate end to Veterans Day.

Happy Samhain everyone!

(I know yesterday was the 31st, but be honest, how many covens gathered on Friday night? My Samhain plans are today and tomorrow.)

I usually stick to cruciform swords on my pumpkins, but this year I decided to do a mortuary-hilted broadsword. It didn't come out well and looks like my jack-o-lantern is of a sword and axe instead. Sigh.

This is my third attempt in a week to draw my son's face. The first two came out awful, but this one isn't bad. It doesn't look like him, but at least he doesn't look like an orc.

My wife ordered this shield for me.

The artist went all out and made something beautiful.

I was thinking I should go to Golconda India, where some scholars believe that crucible steel was first invented, in the 8th century after Rome was founded (roughly contemporary with Julius Caesar).

The other day, as I was teaching a lesson on how to do homework if you are really distracted, a hawk flew by my classroom window.

I interrupted myself in mid-sentence to point it out and we all gathered at the back of my classroom to look.

After I took this picture, we continued the lesson.

I went to The Worcester Art Museum today. It was pretty awesome. Here are some pictures.

When it got really bad, the cobra stretch reduced the pain.

Eventually, I had an MRI done and they found the problem, a small balloon sticking out of my spinal column. After the surgery, the pain dropped from an 8 to a 2 instantly.

This stream was full to the point I thought it would flood the street in the spring. I hope we have a wet and snowy winter.

I have a 666 day streak in Duo Lingo.

I have been reading comic books in German. The ones aimed at little children are actually funny now, at my current level of understanding.

This is the 9-circuit labyrinth I want to make for The Thing next year.
August 29, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Oh good, someone got a picture of the labyrinth I made at The Thing.

The children were amazing helpers until they got bored and wandered off. Thankfully, there was a gagaball pit right there, so when they wandered off I could easily keep an eye on them.

I took my children to the beach yesterday. My little one walked the labyrinth I drew in the sand with me, but when I went to get my camera from my tent 5 meters away, by the time I turned around a family had set up their chairs on my labyrinth.

It was disappointing.

I found a Pink Floyd cover band last night and took my family. It was an epic show and there was a family there that was handing out dollar store glow sticks to children. My youngest child took 4 and was very happy dancing around covered in glow sticks.

I went kayaking this morning and a giant blue heron flew by me about 10 feet away, almost right over my kayak. I did not get a picture unfortunately.

There was a sudden thunder storm tonight. After all this heat, I was excited to go for a run in it. I knew it wouldn't last long, so I set a personal speed record.

Then the sun started to come out, so I ran back to my house to get my children.

My coven decided to celebrate two July birthdays, including mine, today.

"Honey, stop setting up for ritual and come inside. They want to go over something out loud."

Oh wow. This lot is empty. My meeting ran really long.

I hiked a new trail today, about 10 miles away. The midpoint of the loop was a lovely lily pad filled pond.
