Bakezōri (化け草履) are old straw sandals that turn into Yōkai after being neglected or forgotten by their owners. They enjoy running about the house at night making mischief and noises!

New Yōkai alert! According to Japanese folklore, when a cat surpasses their natural lifespawn, they turn into yōkai, becoming a a Nekomata (猫又) (or a Bakeneko, but we’ll talk about those in the future!). When a cat becomes a nekomata, their tail split in two and they gain supernatural powers.

Kamaitachi (鎌鼬) are weasel yokai with sharp sickle claws from the mountainous regions of Yamanashi, Nagano, and Niigata. They ride the swirling whirlwinds of these cold regions and attack in threes, striking out at people from thin air.
