The one thing all of the former group share is that, generally, they don't know much about murder, torture, or war, at all. To grasp at concepts so old and complex, one needs to be open to see how they fit in vastly different societies, including in the realm of the non-human.

...torture, etc. cannot be understood in a vacuum, that they are signified in a huge number of ways across history, and that we do humanity and our own ethical makeup a disservice by addressing them casually or in moral absolutes.

1) The 70s paradigm shift that started with the Bretton Woods accord to dlowly disassemble the Welfare State

2) The Welfare State not being about welfare at all in the first place (it was a Bismarck move to fuck the SPD and it worked so well everyone copied it..
