I live in Queensland, Australia.
I'm a retired rural photo-journalist (once a maestro of miscellaneous observation). Trying hard to keep an outrageous sense of humour and absurd appreciation of the ridiculous in an uncertain age.
Certain politicians continue the lie that we can keep opening more coal mines and coal seam gas fields without totally destroying Australia’s climate and food and water security.
Ditching net zero abandons Aussie farmers like me
When politicians say they’re against net zero, they’re willing to let their constituents suffer record-breaking floods, droughts and heat.

This video was created specifically for U.S. audiences as a gesture of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day - a reminder, Ukrainian servicemembers say, that even in wartime, “there is always a reason to give thanks.”

"This isn’t diplomacy. It’s a real estate developer playing geopolitical chess without knowing, or really caring, which pieces move were. And Americans, Ukrainians and their European allies are expected to pay for it."

As Americans carve their Thanksgiving turkeys today, turkeys of a human sort are carving up Ukraine and Europe’s future – and American credibility along with it.

Instead of seeking peace, the Kremlin is trying to buy time and undermine Ukraine’s allies, analysts say. Another goal is to shift the blame to Kyiv by accusing it of rejecting Russian conditions that are effectively tantamount to capitulation.
Russia's coy game: Why Kremlin won't commit to Trump's peace push
As U.S. President Donald Trump accelerates his push for a settlement in Moscow's war against Ukraine, analysts say Russia's ambiguous stance is clouding the process. Even though the original peace pl...

Engineered marine microbes (vibrio natriegens) are fed pure formic acid as their sole source of carbon. The microbes metabolise the acid to produce succinic acid, which is then used as a precursor to synthesise biodegradable plastics.
Ocean carbon in, biodegradable plastic out
Not-so-fun fact: our oceans hold 150 times more carbon dioxide than the Earth's atmosphere. Adding to that causes ocean acidification, which can disrupt marine food chains and reduce biodiversity.
