On days like TDOR I grieve for Trans comrades murdered by the fash and the non-state fash, but I also grieve the Trans communities that have abandoned me and enabled abusers by doing so.

I grieve the way we could be holding each other in community and aren't.

I apply makeup to keep from crying
a mask barring the tears from release
all the day long
shedding layers in the shower
I break the dam to cry freely in the safety of
my home my companion
tears like seed from a sower
planting the catharsis of grief
inviting anyone else to who needs relief

I hope one day my partner and are surrounded by community again to hold and be held by on days like today. It's a heavy thing to carry alone.

A solemn trans day of remembrance to those who observe today.

On days like TDOR & TDOV we interweave joy and grief. Joy into a day of grief and rememberance. Grief into a day of celebration and visibility. That is a part of the fabric of our community. I mourn those lost. Folks I remember fondly and those I never had the fruition of making friends with.
