And how would their society look? Maybe harem-lords don’t really work, so the only economic actors are females and sneak-breeders. Could this species override their instincts and share territory in cities? How would you keep track of whose harem was whose? Visual signifiers like badges, maybe?

There’s this idea that the relationship between men and women is the “ur-oppression” and all types of bigotry are modeled after that dynamic. What are the implications of this for a species with, effectively, three social genders where two are seen as “lesser”?

Myths and morality fables would revolve around this untranslatable cultural value, the measured magnanimity of a harem-lord who knows exactly how many twinks he should let in to fuck his wives

As they developed societies, sneak-breeding would probably develop ritual significance. Culturally, there would be an expectation that harem-lords suffer a certain amount of sneak-breeders— but not too many! Sneak-breeders might be honored guests. Maybe there would be paperwork involved

Basic sketch of my idea: early ancestors of this alien had territorial harem-guarding males and nomadic sneak-breeding males. Two factors drove them to develop intelligence: evolutionary arms race between male types and the increasing size of harems rewarding social maneuvering.

These traits have really interesting implications for an intelligent species’ gender politics but they’re also, like, basically the omegaverse. You have the cuckold males and the femboy males. How could you possibly convince people you’re not getting off on writing this

Many species feature males who are split between a strong, highly territorial “harem guard” phenotype and 1 or more non-dominant male phenotypes who use alternative tactics like female mimicry to pass along their genes.
