World is falling apart, and I'm over here trying to learn a new SYMBOLS layer that I added to my glove80 keyboard's keymap.

Why did it take me this long to pair my glove80 with my phone? This is nice.

Wake me up when AI chats can have threads.

It's been long enough since I left my last job that when someone asks what I do, I've started saying I 'used to be' a software engineer. The shift in language feels heavy.

Hopefully that changes within the next year. I've been taking time to chase after health issues — turns out there are many!

Gemini needs a better way to organize chats, especially by automatically separating 'digital assistant' chats from manually-created ones. This should be a uniform (in look-and-feel and functionality) feature across both the web and mobile apps.

I am generally against “everything needs to have an app” - I do not need my dishwasher to text me - but I will reluctantly grant it in the case of my garage door

mostly because my brain takes about five seconds after it’s out of sight to forget whether I closed the damn thing

I love the modern Web. Visit a website on mobile and get assaulted by pop-ups for sharing location and receiving notifications in addition to the site's popups for cookies, promotional materials, and the kitchen sink.

The cycle of owning a CPAP machine:

1. Take a few days to get your mask fit just right to minimize leaks.
2. Have a few nights with a perfect mask fit.
3. Weekly cleaning time! Completely disassemble the mask to clean it, losing that perfect mask fit you had.
4. Rinse and repeat, ad infinitum.

I'm a few days away from my one year anniversary of being unemployed. What a surreal feeling. I might as well refer to this period as my mid-career retirement. Hopefully there will be a second half to my career and I didn't ruin it by voluntarily taking time away. 🤞

Chat, is it dangerous to sleep in an EV (that's outside a garage) hooked up to a CPAP machine during a thunderstorm?

It's surprising how many scam websites are under Google's sponsored shopping items. Search "riding lawnmower from Walmart" and you'll see tens of them.

Sigh, Google is being Google and is killing Gemini's usefulness unless you pay for the $250/mo plan (which is untenable for me at the moment). I've been a happy Pro plan user for ages now, and now I'm suddenly getting full day rate limits? Why am I paying for this?

Something needs to be done about 15 going through Frederick, Maryland. I hold my breath the entire length of it.

Weird thing HGTV hosts do: Alright, I'm going to leave and show myself out of your house.

Yeah, I'm sure that happens.

It must be difficult to write a book about AI only for so much to change by the time it gets published.

Being a Software Engineer

Pro:
If the software you need doesn't exist, you can build it yourself.

A downside of working with a laptop on my lap is that my belly hangs over a wee bit, causing the touchpad to think we're doing a multi-touch gesture now.
