y'know, someone should really tell the Hallmark movie makers about how many Jewish holidays there are ... we could have Purim romances! Sukkot fake dating! Tu b'shvat new love!

finally something we agree on
December 14, 2025 at 5:06 AM
as opposed to your solution, which requires cops
December 14, 2025 at 4:56 AM
again, I don't disagree, but again, we do not currently live in a world free of unjust privacy violations
December 14, 2025 at 4:33 AM
yes, and I prefer mechanical means over a punitive system
December 14, 2025 at 3:49 AM
again, I just think that everyone should obey the speed limit
December 14, 2025 at 3:45 AM
I don't disagree, but we'd have to go back in time to not be constantly surveilled
December 14, 2025 at 3:39 AM
okay
December 14, 2025 at 3:33 AM
which only happened bc their men weren't manly enough! they should have been wearing pants, not dresses!
December 14, 2025 at 3:24 AM
I'm saying that this is a good idea and we should work toward a world where it's possible (while accounting for potential harms, in case you want to act like I think cops are good again)

December 14, 2025 at 3:11 AM
you are arguing just as passionately, if not more so, against this tech that doesn't exist (except that it apparently does, bc the original post was about how ebikes are literally speed limited, but okay)

I'm not saying we should magically apply the current technology to the current world

December 14, 2025 at 3:11 AM
I didn't say they wouldn't be able to access it, just that it's more difficult than pressing a button if they aren't in charge of it; will you please stop interpreting what I'm saying as lukewarm to cops?
December 14, 2025 at 2:59 AM
only if the cops are in charge of the database?
December 14, 2025 at 2:39 AM
no, obviously not, but adding cameras to the database could help to mitigate the "cops can change the database" thing

also, to go back to the original idea that cops would change the speed limit to zero to catch ppl ... it's a stupid idea that would be way more work & less effective than a blockade
December 14, 2025 at 2:30 AM
look I just typed "how does my car know the speed limit" into duckduckgo and clicked on the first website, and it disagrees with you

December 14, 2025 at 2:12 AM
okay, I don't know what the exact mechanic is, but my friend's car tells him the speed limit based on speed limit signs as he passes them
December 14, 2025 at 2:03 AM
why aren't photos of the signs reasonable sources?
December 14, 2025 at 1:51 AM
obviously not that part

I meant, technologically, how would they get live control of the rental scooter speeds?
December 14, 2025 at 1:45 AM
I would love to know how you think this would be accomplished
December 14, 2025 at 1:21 AM
this post might be the thing to finally get me to start using Linux ...
December 13, 2025 at 11:33 PM
nah, you're good. I'm just making the case that even if he did make that amount of money from literally nothing, it's still an incredibly dishonest "experiment" that doesn't mean anything for like, addressing homelessness or poverty or anything
December 13, 2025 at 10:46 PM
and I'm so mad that the media coverage about him is so fucking fawning! "oh, well, shucks, he didn't complete his challenge but he learned a lot" fuck NO no he didn't
